The latest update on the progress of Operation Hernia missions |
The provisional schedule for 2010 missions is posted on this site on the page “Volunteer dates” 2010 and includes the following: • 4 missions to Takoradi, Ghana (January, March, April and November) • 3 missions to Eruwa, Nigeria (March, July and October) • 3 missions to Aliade, Nigeria in February, May and September • A mission to Mongolia in May • A mission to Nalerigu, Ghana in June • A mission to Ecuador in July , and to Ivory Coast in November • American Hernia Society affiliates with Operation Hernia: The successful working relationship with the European Hernia Society was given a boost by the approval of Dr Charles Filipi and the American Hernia Society (AHS) to cooperate closely with Operation Hernia during its expansion into the Caribbean, Central and South America (see our Credo). Dr Filipi is a veteran of several Hernia Camps to the Dominican Republic where he has lead teams composed of many leading AHS members. His experience and knowledge of working in the Western Hemisphere will be greatly valued. • Mission to Aliade (Nigeria): A highly successful mission took place during 17-27 February 2010 at the new site at St Vincents Hospital, Benue State, very well-organised by Dr Austin Ella. A Report from Shorland Hosking is published on the website (2010 Missions). Tragically Shorland was killed in an air crash near Bournemouth on April 17th. He was a highly valued contributor whose presence on future missions will be sorely missed. Our prayers are with the bereaved members of his family. • First mission with American Hernia Society: Andrew Kingsnorth lead a team including 2 members of the AHS to Mongolia during 1-15 May 2010.
